Student Support Services

Creating New Futures!

You are entering an exciting new phase in your young life – one that is aimed at preparing you to create a new future not only for yourself, but for all mankind. Professional Student Support Services are available at all our campuses where staff members are committed to supporting you while you are a student at Eastcape Midlands College.Together with the anticipation that accompanies the many wonderful new challenges you will be experiencing, you will also be faced with trials and tribulations that may leave you feeling disillusioned and anxious. The Student Support Services Division provides a range of services to all the students so that they can become effective functioning individuals who are equipped with personal social skills, who are able to adapt to changing life demands and enter the world of work.The principle elements of Student Support Services provided to all students at Eastcape Midlands College include pre-entry, on-course and exit level support.

DHET Bursary Application Guidelines

During this period of induction, you will be informed about the following aspects:

  • your respective roles and responsibilities and what is expected of your throughout your period of study
  • introduction to all staff members as well as the SRC of Eastcape Midlands College
  • an overview of the programmes offered at the College
  • the pass requirements per subject
  • the assessment criteria and processes as well as the weightings per subject
  • the career fields related to the programmes offered
  • SSS framework: Pre-Entry support, On-course support and Exit support
  • sign the Code of Conduct for students to make sure you understand the issues of behaviour and conduct
  • 80% Attendance
  • Academic Performance
  • Work based experience/exposure
  • Promoting attendance of intervention programmes
  • Relating performance to financial aid

SSS Framework

ACADEMIC SUPPORT:

Eastcape Midlands College strives towards 100% retention, certification and placement.  To achieve this goal, the College has established different types of academic support to assist students to be successful in their studies.  Students are urged to attend the following academic intervention programmes:

    • PACE
    • Study Skills Workshops
    • Winter School
    • Spring School
    • Archi Maths programme
    • Examination intervention programme

PERSONAL SUPPORT (COUNSELING AND REFERRALS):

At Eastcape Midlands College we fully understand that students are all individuals with different types of needs.  Therefore we invite all students to visit the Student Support Office whenever you need help with concerns such as:

    • academic performance
    • test anxiety
    • poor concentration
    • interpersonal relationships
    • career decisions
    • low self-esteem
    • family
    • HIV and Aids
    • drug/alcohol abuse
    • grief over loss of a close friend or family member

DISABILITY SUPPORT:

Eastcape Midlands College commits themselves to provide services to students with disabilities that can give them an equal opportunity to participate in all aspects of the educational environment.  The Student Support Division is there to create a welcoming campus that meets the needs of students with disabilities, foster student independence and recognizes students on the basis of their abilities rather than their disabilities.  Therefore we invite students to make an appointment with your Student Liaison Officer at the campus in order to discuss the services offered to students with disabilities, such as:

    • Assistive devices
    • Financial support
    • Examination concessions
